The greatest advantage of shortwave radio has always been its ability to reach around the world. The disadvantage however, has typically been poor audio quality due to the nature of analog signals, often making it difficult for the listener to hear the broadcasts as they are received. Digital radio is the answer to that problem because it combines the advantage of long range broadcasting with the clarity of a digital signal to produce audio comparable to a local FM radio station.
